Create a Bootable Mac OS X Yosemite Installer USB Flash Drive by Command Line

With OS X Yosemite, you can create a bootable OS X installer which can be used to install a Fresh copy osf OS X on your mac.

Before you create a bootable OS X¬† Yosemite installer, you’ll need to get the following first:

  1. The OS X Installer app from the Mac App Store.
  2. A removable media such as a USB flash drive(Minimum 8GB of space), or a secondary internal partition.
  3. A Mac running OS X Yosemite.

Okay,Now that you’ve got everything we need, Now Open up terminal app, Use the following command in Terminal for Yosemite

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\
/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications
/Install\ OS\ X\

It will prompt for your computer password don’t worry, Just type in the password. You’ll not see the passport as you input, its hidden so that no one can see Your password ūüôā

Now, For example, assuming you have a volume mounted at /Volumes/FlashDrive and the OS X installer app is at /Applications/Install OS X you could erase “FlashDrive” and convert it into a bootable installer with this command:

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\
/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/FlashDrive --applicationpath /Applications
/Install\ OS\ X\

Important Notes:

  • You may need to replace the path of OS X installer app and/or your removable media device’s name in the command.
  • Check the difference between two commands You’ll Understand what you need to change.
  • createinstallmedia¬†is an advanced option for system administrators and as such, requires some knowledge of the command line in order to be used properly. It is only intended to be used with the version of the OS X Installer app it came with.

Create a bootable Windows 10 USB drive

Microsoft has released Windows 10 Final Version, Windows 10 has the best and most flexible start menu, Modern and Sleek design, Cortana: Personal Assistant, touch-friendly, yet still great with a keyboard and mouse.

This all sounds very interesting indeed, especially if you have been waiting for an upgrades so long. If you want to get the feel of Windows 10 directly on your PC, then you already know that your best clean install option is a bootable USB drive, But this is a little bit tricky option, So why not to post a article by collecting all information from internet we may need to create a bootable USB Drive.

The Requirements :

To create a bootable Windows 10 USB drive you will need to get the following:

  1. Windows 10 ISO, which you can download from here.
  2. Windows 7 or 8 product key(if you are a genuine windows 7 or 8 user to get windows 10 for free).
  3. Archiving tool like WinRAR or any other you like. You can skip it if you are and Windows 8 user
  4. USB drive — the minimum size is 4 GB,¬† the faster the USB drive is, the less time it will take.
  5. Windows PC.

Creating the Bootable USB Drive :

After getting all items on that list,  extract the contents of the Windows 10  ISO to a drive on your Windows PC or You can Mount the ISO file if you are an Windows 8 user. This option is revealed by right-clicking on the said file. Keep in mind that the partition you will use needs to have enough free space to accommodate the extra content. Also, a backup of the files on the USB drive is recommended.

Now, you will need to insert the USB drive, and do the following steps to make a boot-able Windows 10 USB media:

  • Open Command Prompt window with Administrator privilege .
  • Use the diskpart command to open the disk partitioning software.¬†Validate the UAC prompt, if you’re asked to do so.
  • Use the list disk command to get the list of attached physical storage media. This will show all the Storage devices inserted into your PC.
  • Identify the disk number of the USB drive you are using for this process (look at the size column for easy identification as thumb drives has smaller space; based on my experience, it is usually listed last).
  • Use the select disk X command to select it, where “X” is the disk number of your USB drive.
  • Use the clean command to erase the contents of the USB drive.
  • Use the create partition primary command to create a primary partition on the USB drive.
  • You can use list partition to check if the partition was created.
  • Use the select partition 1 command to select the previously created partition.
  • Use the “active” command to make said partition appear active, or validated.
  • Use the format fs=ntfs quick command to format the said partition as NTFS.
  • Use the assign command to assign a drive letter to the USB drive. Afterwards, it will show up as a drive under My Computer.
  • Extract the windows 10.iso file or mount it if you’re in windows 8 or later.
  • Copy the extracted or mounted contents of the Windows 10 ISO to the USB drive.
  • Go back to the command prompt window you shouldn‚Äôt have closed
  • Type the following command- d:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt60 f: and press return, Replace the file location by Yours, where d is your mounted iso files location and f is the thumb drive’s location.

Now, You have all you wanted. you can reboot your pc and select boot from removable drives and install a fresh copy of windows 10. Comment or contact me if you’re having difficulties. Cheers !!
